Clarence Valley Council

The Clarence Valley Council is a Local Government Area located close to the north-eastern corner of New South Wales, roughly 569 kilometres north-north-east of Sydney, the state capital. With the South Pacific Ocean immediately to the east, the LGA forms part of Australia's easternmost boundaries. It got its name from the Clarence River, which, in turn, was named in honour of William IV, the First Duke of Clarence.

The Clarence Valley Council was established in February 2004 following the merging of the former Local Government Areas of the City of Grafton and the Maclean Shire, along with sections of the Copmanhurst, Pristine Waters, and Richmond Valley LGAs. With the city of Grafton as its Council Seat, it is part of the State Electorate of Clarence, as well as the Federal Divisions of Cowper and Page. It has an estimated population of 52,054 residents.

Other than the city of Grafton, the Clarence Valley Council is composed of 19 other towns, namely Ashby Heights, Clarenza, Copmanhurst, Coutts Crossing, Bulmarrad, Glenreagh, Iluka, James Creek, Junction Hill, Lawrence, Maclean, Mountain View, Palmers Island, South Grafton, Townsend, Ulmarra, Waterview Heights, Woombah, and Yamba. Its neighbouring Local Government Areas are Bellingen, Coffs Harbour, Glen Innes Severn, Guyra, Richmond Valley, and Tenterfield.

Apart from the numerous activities along the Clarence River, the Clarence Valley Council has a host of attractions for locals and visitors alike to experience and enjoy. Notable examples include the Alumny Creek Public School Museum, Angourie Rainforest Resort, Coldstream Gallery, Ferry Park Gallery, Glenreagh Memorial Museum, Grafton Heritage Trail, Lawrence Museum, Maclean Stone Cottage and Bicentennial Museum, Museum of Interesting Things, Nymboida Canoe Centre, Schaeffer House Museum, Solitary Islands Marine Park Resort, The Shed Gallery, Witzig Gallery, and Yamba Museum.
